Sanibel is an island that runs east-west. Therefore you can see the sun rise or set, depending on where you are staying. This time we rented a condo on the east facing side. I didn’t think we would be able to enjoy the sunsets. However one night, I was proven wrong. The view we had may have been more beautiful than the sunset itself!

You know you are in love with a place when you go to bed as late as possible and rise as early as possible. Especially on vacation. Most of the time, I woke before 7am with my children. Normally I would try to fall back asleep as they occupy themselves with TV and cereal. But not on this trip.
One morning my kids and I explored the beach at sunrise. I had a feeling there would be better shells, not to mention experiencing the majesty of the sun coming up.
I was amazed at the beauty of the light. I don’t think I have ever seen the sun rise over the sea before.
I especially love the way it captured the essence my children. So glad I didn’t lounge in bed that morning.
Imprints on my soul..

One of the great things about living in Atlanta is that you can take short road trips in any direction and get to amazing places. Last fall we spent a long weekend in Charleston, South Carolina. It truly is the best of both worlds. Charleston feels European with it’s cobblestone streets and historic architecture, but has tropical beaches and amazing low country cuisine (think shrimp & grits and she-crab soup, yum!). If you are a history buff, Charleston doesn’t disappoint. One of the highlights is a horse and carriage tour, where the dramatic history of Charleston is laid out before you by the knowledgable driver. If it’s more your speed, you can just shop, dine and relax on a beach to your heart’s content. Luckily the weekend we visited saw record breaking temps of 80 degrees in November, so we were able to do just that!
